Description	:	Mass and Christian burial for Ruth Malone, age 86, will be Saturday May 30 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory starting at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow the services in the Catholic Cemetery of Gregory. A Wake service will be held Friday evening at the church starting at 7:00 PM. Ruth Mary Shea Malone was born March 5, 1923 in the farm home south of Colome, SD, where she was raised. She was the 7th of 8 children born to Daniel and Nettie (McCoy) Shea. Ruth attended Stewart country school with her brothers and sisters walking three miles across fields during the drought years of the depression. Ruth then attended Colome High School, living in the dorm and working part time to pay for her board. She graduated from Colome High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to Washington State, living with her brother Harold and his young family, where she worked in a tomato cannery. Later she was employed as a bookkeeper at Farmers Cooperative Association in Dallas. She married Robert A. Malone on June 21, 1945 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church a country church in Danton which was near Colome. They made their home in Dallas where Bob was the manager of Farmers Cooperative Association a thriving grain elevator business. Their lives were blessed with four children: Marianne, Ellen, Robert and Jane. The family enjoyed summer vacations together. A highlight was attending the World's Fair in Seattle in 1962 and then a ferry boat ride to Vancouver Island. Ruth lovingly cared for her father during the last 8 years of his life until 1979, including him in her home and in her life with Bob. Bob died October 30, 1978. Ruth then continued to live in their home in Dallas until 1998, keeping busy with the big yard and garden. During that time she enjoyed her children's visits home and having the grandchildren spend time with her during the summers. She moved to Gregory in 1998 where she lived until August, 2007 when she moved to assisted living in Winner. A health decline in March of 2009 brought her back to Gregory to reside in Rosebud Nursing Home where her life ended on May 26, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Ruth was an active member of the Catholic Daughters for 60 years, and St. Augustine Catholic Church in Dallas until it closed in 1969 and then St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory. She was a member of the Gregory County Historical Society. Ruth was a daily volunteer at the nursing home for many years. Ruth enjoyed several pilgrimage trips with Father Ray's groups at St. Joseph Church. Ruth shared a special friendship with Carol Beth Winters. She felt so fortunate to have such a caring friend and referred to her as her "South Dakota daughter". She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob and her daughter Jane (in 2002), and her five brothers: Jerry, Melvin, Harold, Don and Lee Shea; and her sister Helen Shoemaker. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Kulbel of Keystone, SD; her daughter Marianne (Harvey)Eivins of Winterset, IA; her daughter Ellen (Gene) D'Orsogna of Williamsburg, VA; her son Bob (Carol) Malone of Chadron, NE; and her 7 grandchildren: Danielle Eivins Loria, Zach Eivins, Michelle Shannon, Patrick Mahoney, Bobby Malone, Laura Perkins and Jennifer Lindner; and her 5 great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Diego Loria Eivins and Katherine, Frances and Luke Shannon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
