Description	:	Mrs. Hughes was born and reared in the Coward area, a daughter of the late Jeff and Essie Poston Miles. Prior to getting married she helped raise her nieces and nephews after the death of her sister. This was the beginning of her lifelong devotion to raising children. She married Kelly M. Hughes, a Columbia police officer, and raised four children while living in West Columbia and Danville, Va. While in Columbia she was employed at the South Carolina Statehouse. Read More	Mrs. Hughes was born and reared in the Coward area, a daughter of the late Jeff and Essie Poston Miles. Prior to getting married she helped raise her nieces and nephews after the death of her sister. This was the beginning of her lifelong devotion to raising children. She married Kelly M. Hughes, a Columbia police officer, and raised four children while living in West Columbia and Danville, Va. While in Columbia she was employed at the South Carolina Statehouse. Upon retirement she became involved in the DSS Foster Care Program and was a foster parent for 18 years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was a member of Unity Christian Fellowship and her favorite hobbies were gardening and sewing. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Buddy) Lynch of Effingham and Sue Hughes (Ron) McBride of Florence; a son, Mike M. (Carol) Hughes of Florence; a half sister, Ada Mae Miles (Everett) Lee of Pamplico; four grandsons, Jamie (Jennifer) Hughes, Michael Hughes, David Hughes and Gerald (Dee) Lynch; five granddaughters, Pam Lynch, Cindy Jordan, Janet Jordan, Stacey (Chris) Connell and Robin Prosser; a stepgranddaughter, Linda Hughes of Danville, Va.; five great-grandsons, Thomas Nichols, Corey Jordan, Jared Jordan, Matthew Jordan McFadden and Christopher Connell; two great-granddaughters, Brittany Lynch and Tiffany Prosser; and a number of special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine Hughes Prosser; adopted son, Brian Hughes; stepson, Bobby Hughes; grandson Lee Jordan; three sisters, Ethel Grimsley, Leila Matthews and Eula Kirby; a brother, Ernest Miles; three half sisters, Azalea Foxworth, Mary Smith, and Janie Mae Poston; and three half brothers, Cully Miles, Henry Miles and Luther Miles. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today in Unity Christian Fellowship with burial in Beulah Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, 5232 Turbeville Highway, Turbeville, SC 29162. The family will have visitation at other times at the home of her daughter, Sue McBride, 1211 Third Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505. Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
