Description	:	Ruth M. Baird, 62, a lifelong resident of the upper valley, died Saturday evening, Nov. 2, 1996, at home with her family, following an extended illness. She was born Feb. 7, 1934, to Michael and Anna (Stevens) Schneider in Leavenworth and began her early education at the Winton School. Baird, 62, a lifelong resident of the upper valley, died Saturday evening, Nov. 2, 1996, at home with her family, following an extended illness. She was born Feb. 7, 1934, to Michael and Anna (Stevens) Schneider in Leavenworth and began her early education at the Winton School. She later attended school in Cashmere and finished high school at Leavenworth. Following school, she worked for Dr. VanEaton as a dental assistant. On June 17, 1952, she married John L. "Johnny" Baird in Wenatchee, and they made their home in Leavenworth. She worked for the Peshastin Fruit Growers Association and later worked as the floor supervisor for the Northern Fruit Co. in Wenatchee until her retirement. She also enjoyed being the United States Census taker in the upper valley. Mrs. Baird was very active in the lives of her family and grandchildren. She also loved writing short stories and poetry. Survivors include her husband, Johnny, of the family home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John "Chip" and Bunny Baird of Leavenworth; one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Derry and Janna Donoghue of Leavenworth; four brothers, George Schneider of Cashmere, Albert Snyder, Louie Schneider and James Schneider, all of Leavenworth; one sister, Lilly Schneider of Spokane; four grandchildren, Tawnya, Sam and Annie Baird, and Derry Donoghue III, all of Leavenworth; and a special friend, Sharon Watson of Peshastin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lester. Ward's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
