Description	:	Ruth Powers, 90, died in Portland, Ore., at Mary's Foster Care May 27, 2017. Ruth was born December 19, 1926 in Burwell. She was one of eight children born to Eben and Lula (McKenzie) Moss. ? Ruth attended schools in the Burwell area. She was one of eight children born to Eben and Lula (McKenzie) Moss. ? Ruth attended schools in the Burwell area. They included Rose Hill, Westside and Riverside. ?She graduated from Burwell High School in 1943. In 1944 she married Stanley Powers. Ruth was committed to helping others. She was an educator in area schools including Madison Square for several years and served as Loup County Superintendent of Schools for nine and a half years. Ruth taught at St. Mary's Catholic School in Ord and served on the Ord Public Schools Board of Education. Later she worked as the audio visual assistant in the Ord Public Schools for six years. Ruth was also employed by Green Thumb, served in domestic violence prevention, carried mail in Taylor and Elyria and owned and operated Riverview Upholstery. She and Stan volunteered with the Civil Defense Sky Watch program in the 1950s. They were members of the Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Powers, and by four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Geraldine (Richard Steen) and Judith (Ronald Dughman); three grandchildren, Ryan Sakai-Dughman (Kiyomi), Keri Ridenour (Kelby), and Kathryn Steen; two great-grandchildren, Zen and Kai Sakai-Dughman; her sister, Nadine (Daniel) Klimek; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. Interment at Madison Square Cemetery will immediately follow the service. Govier Brothers/Rhoad Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Published in Custer County Chief on July 29, 2017
