She attended Veblen High School and Northern State University. She taught in one-room schools in rural South Dakota with fond memories of staying with families. After retirement she was a substitute teacher. She married Rueben Beitelspacher in 1948; together they created a family farm West of Aberdeen. Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran, the Quilters and the Sew & So Club. Her passion was the Zion Prayer Shawl Ministry which she was instrumental in starting. Family and friends delighted Ruth. She loved trips with family. Ruth was a wife, mom, grandmother, friend, teacher, sewer, knitter, tatter, calligrapher, poet, master gardener, mentor, great baker and a recipe collector. She made delicious desserts and bread. Of Danish-Norwegian descent, Ruth learned to make Rueben's favorite German dishes: Kuchen, Honey Cookies, Cabbage Rolls and Strudel. She delighted in visiting with, seeing pictures of, and hearing about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include children: Marian and Gary Geist, Neal and Diana Beitelspacher, Rod Beitelspacher, and Sidney Beitelspacher. Grandchildren include Blake Beitelspacher, Tanya and Dan Smith , Travis and Ingrid Geist, Nicole and Matt Wohrel, and Jon Beitelspacher. Great Grandchildren: Cole, Emma, Ella, Landon Smith; Ethan and Lucas Worhle, Owen Beitelspacher, Dylan and Tyler Geist. She leaves behind sister-in-laws: Elli Nelson, Annie Nelson and June Beitelspacher and nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Jane Nelson Hammer, Joy Nelson Godmere, brothers: Sherman, Cecil, Johnny Nelson and by daughter-in-law, DeAnn Boik Beitelspacher.
