Memorial services at Hope United Methodist Church, in Marshalltown. Ruth was born on October 5, 1918, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Hollenbeck) Troup in Maxwell, Iowa. She was educated in the Maxwell schools. Ruth married John Jackson on September 22, 1934 in Forest City, Iowa. He died on May 16, 1980. She married Albert Meyer on February 14, 1992. He died on April 18, 1994. Ruth was a seamstress for JC Penney and Fantles Department Store. She made most of the clothes for her daughters, some out of feed sacks. Ruth enjoyed serving on the Election boards and was a lifelong Democrat. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. Ruth was a member of PTA while her children were in school. She was also a member of the Rebeccas and the Womens Relief Corp. Ruth loved to make quilts. She was also an excellent cook and cooked her meals on a wood burning cook stove. Ruth liked to fish and looked forward to annual trips to Lake Plantagenet in Bemidji, Minnesota, where they spent vacations for many years. After her marriage to Al, they took trips to Texas, so she changed directions from looking at lakes and cleaning fish, to going to Texas and visiting family. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Garol) Cooling of LeGrand, Iowa, and Mary (Joe) Griffiths of Marshalltown; two stepdaughters, Betty (Larry DeFrance) Long of Marshalltown, and Barbara (Gary) Peterson of Plano, Texas; ten grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; a sister, Vera; a brother, Howard; stepsons Bill, and Bob; a step grandson, Rick; and a step great-grandson, Lonnie.
