Description	:	Ellendale, N.D. - Ruth R. Spitzer, 84 of Ellendale, N.D., daughter of Bernard and Mathilda (Flagg) Gehring, was born Dec. 13, 1921, near Kulm, N.D. She attended country school. After her education she was a waitress and a clerk at the dime store. She also worked at Finney Jewelry. Ruth moved to Ellendale, N.D., in 1946. She married Ervin Spitzer on July 18, 1948, in Ellendale. After their marriage, Ruth continued to work as a retail clerk. Later, she was a homemaker and raised her children. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and a bowling league. Ruth died July 20, 2006, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, S.D. Grateful to have shared in her life are two daughters, Sharon (Harlan) Swenson, Moorhead, Minn., and Cheryl (Jack) Pfeifer, Starbuck, Minn.; five grandchildren, Lane Stennes, Milwaukee, Wis., Darcie Stennes, Edina, Minn., Jill (Danny) Weinberger, Beaver Dam, Wis., Michael (Samantha) Pfeifer, Detroit, Mich., and Elise Pfeifer, Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother, Orville Gehring, Cogswell, N.D.; and two sisters, Vivian Brandenburger, Ellendale, N.D., and Dorothy Wells, Randolph, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Judy Schmidt; one brother, Rueben Gehring; and two sisters, Viola Zahn and Marian Miller. The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Patrick O'Brien officiating. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at Hoven Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery. Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Aberdeen News on 7/23/2006.
