Born March 29, 1922 in Chesnee, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie B. and Arzie Strickland Turner. She was married to the late Benjamin F. Smith for 45 years. Together they enjoyed gardening and sharing with friends and family the fruits of their labor. Read More	SPARTANBURG, SC Mrs. Ruth Turner Smith, 89, of Spartanburg, died Saturday May 14, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House after a short illness. Born March 29, 1922 in Chesnee, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie B. and Arzie Strickland Turner. She was married to the late Benjamin F. Smith for 45 years. Together they enjoyed gardening and sharing with friends and family the fruits of their labor. Until her recent illness, Ruth continued her love of working outdoors and enjoying God's great creations. Ruth retired in 1987 from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after 19 years of service as Ward Secretary. She was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg and a faithful member of the Circle of Friends Sunday School Class. Survivors include daughter, Nell O'Shields and husband Doug of Inman, also a daughter-in-law, Gennie Jackson Smith of Boiling Springs. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Franklin Smith. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Keith Smith and wife Christina, David Smith, and Melody O'Shields Mullinax all of Inman. 2 great-grandchildren, Brittney Hazel and 5 year old, Charles Benjamin Smith "Little Ben" who was the apple of her eye. Surviving sisters and brothers are Mary Donnahoo of Fingerville, Louveniar Blackwell of Chesnee, Annette Holmes of Arcadia, Blayne Turner of Hendersonville, and Leslie Turner of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by one brother, Malcolm Dugar Turner. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Eggers Funeral Home Chapel of Boiling Springs with Rev. Al Phillips and Dr. David Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd's Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The Circle of Friends Sunday School Class from First Baptist North Spartanburg will serve as honorary escorts.
