Description	:	MONROE Mrs. Ruth Tyson Secrest, age 78, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 20, 2002 at her home in Monroe. She was born February 27, 1924 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late Mr. William Tyson and the late Mrs. Ella Mae Marsh Tyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Parks Secrest in 1983. She was a member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church and together, with her late husband, they owned and operated the Parks Secrest Grocery Store on the Weddington Road out from Monroe, for many years. She was born February 27, 1924 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late Mr. William Tyson and the late Mrs. Ella Mae Marsh Tyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Parks Secrest in 1983. She was a member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church and together, with her late husband, they owned and operated the Parks Secrest Grocery Store on the Weddington Road out from Monroe, for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Shirley Secrest Tinsley and Mrs. Phyllis S. Long, both of Monroe; four grandchildren, Dr. Charles Richardson, M.D. of Charlotte, Mr. Steve Coan, Mr. Bryan Coan and Mr. Mark Coan, all of Monroe; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lessie Watkins of Monroe; one brother, Mr. Frank Tyson of Lancaster, SC; and also a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Thursday night, March 21, 2002 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, March 22, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the Secrest Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Andy Simpson, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family has suggested that memorials may be made to the Secrest Grove Baptist Church, 4505 Weddington Road, Monroe, NC 28110. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mrs. Secrest.
