Read More	Miss Ruthanna Foard , 96, passed away November 21, 2014 from heart failure at her home in Lake Monticello, Virginia. Miss Foard, who was the only child of William N. and Aimee Burton Foard, grew up on her parents' Clearview Farm in the White Hall section of Harford County, Maryland. The Foard registered Guernsey cattle captured champion ribbons more than one year in Maryland State Fair. Life on the farm led her to have a lifelong love of animals and nature. After graduation from Jarrettsville High School, she went on to Bridgewater College, where she received a degree in music and religious education. Her first job was as Christian Education and Children's Choir Director in the Christian Church in Suffolk, VA. She then moved on to teach Bible in public schools in the area in and around Suffolk, and helped grammar schools with their music programs. Musically talented, she could pick up most instruments and play them well. She also loved directing choirs to emote the mood of a song, and teaching singers not to draw attention to themselves, but to God. When the government restricted religious education in schools, she taught 5th grade in Suffolk Elementary School, and went on to receive a Masters degree in Education from the University of Virginia. Her area of study was in student motivation. She asked questions of students and led them in the discovery of answers with hands on activities. She was described as an inspirational teacher, and was voted teacher of the year in Suffolk and Nansemond County School System. After she retired from classroom instruction, she organized a private school for the mentally disabled in Suffolk when she saw them not being prepared for living through public school system. She also tutored unmotivated students to achieve. When her mother was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver in 1984, Miss Foard helped organize and served on the Board of Virginians Opposed to Drunk Driving. As a childhood camper in 4H and church camps, she was the catalyst to develop a Christian Camp on her parents' Baltimore County Beachmont Farm. After her father's sudden death in 1967, she posed the question to her mother, "What are you going to do for God with what you have?" As a result, her mother donated 34 acres to begin Beachmont Christian Camp in 1973, which has affected thousands of lives under the direction of Paul Twining as Director. Miss Foard believed in investing in children's lives with the good news of Jesus Christ, and encouraged others to do so. In her 80's, she purchased a keyboard, went weekly to a local nursing home to play, lead in singing, and teach a Bible study. She hosted a Bible study and Hymn study in her home until just days before her death. When she became bedridden about six months ago, the group met around her bed. Being an only child, who never married, she is survived by her cousins. Interment is in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in White Hall, MD. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at South Plains Presbyterian Church, 410 Black Cat Road, Keswick, VA 22947. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
