Charles was born in Pennsylvania April 14, 1834. In early childhood she came with her parents to Richland County, Ohio, where they lived for many years. Here she was married to Peter Baker in 1854. Their union was blessed with a family of nine children, of whom six survive: Mrs Mina E. Ginther of Scottsbluff, Neb., Isaac C. Baker of Geneva, Elmer E. Baker of Horton, Kas., Mrs. martha C. Lawrie of Davenport, Neb., Mrs. Olive L. Hadley of Rockham, S. D., and Mrs. Anna B. May of Coffeyville, Kas. Mary A. died at the age of nine, Mrs. Luella Spafford died about six years ago, and Etta G. died in infancy. Besides these sons and daughters, two aged brothers, a large number of grandchildren and many relatives and friend are left to await the grand reunion in the great beyond. About eleven years ago the husband was taken, since that time Mrs. Baker has made her home with her children, who were always glad to welcome her. Mrs. Baker was converted in early life and she united with the Evangelical Church. In 1871 the family moved to Kansas and Mrs. Baker was still a member at Hiawatha, Kas., at the time of her death. On March 17, 1913, she met with a serious accident, falling and fracturing her hip. Her advanced age and weakened condition could not stand the shock and though faithfully cared for by tender hands and loving hearts, she slowly faded away until Saturday, May 10, at about 1 o'clock p.m., her soul winged its flight to the "Better Land." The death took place at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrie. her son, Isaac Baker and daughter, Mrs. May, were present at her bedside. All of the children except one had been to see her during this last sickness. The departing of this mother brings pain and tears to her loved ones, but the release from pain and anguish to her, who suffered so much brings its consolation. We saw her in the sunset of life. The shadows gathered and deepened as death's cold touch stilled the heart of flesh forever, but death was robbed of its sting, the grave of its victory, as the sunrise of eternal dawn greeted another mother to the ranks of Heaven's host. Many kind friends heartily join in the sympathy to these afflicted ones. The body was brought to Geneva on the 11 o'clock train Monday, and was interred in the Geneva Cemetery. Rev. C. L. Myers of the Geneva Methodist Church read the burial service at the grave. A funeral service had been held at Davenport Monday morning. The Nebraska Signal May 15, 1918 pages 5/6
