She married James A Reed in 1838. Mother of George T, John C, Armilda Ann, Mary Louise, Martha, Matilda, James Allen , Albert Stanton, William Franklin, Milton Oliver. OBITUARY Died, at the home of her son in Washington township, January 27, 1897, Salinda Jane Reed, aged 74 years nine months and four days. Salinda Jane Allen was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, April 23, 1822. Married James Reed in 1838 and to them was born fourteen children, eight of whom are living, six in Iowa, one in California and one in Kansas. At the age of thirteen years she was converted and united with the Christian church, of which she has been a consistent member ever since. Some time ago, in conversation with a friend about death, said when she died she wanted a plain black casket: did not want any flowers or hearse. Also requested that her favorite (Beckoning Hand) be sung at her funeral. Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Wright, at the Christian Chapel in Washington township, and her remains laid at rest by the side of her husband in King's cemetery west of Dallas Center. While her children mourn the loss of mother, yet they have a sorrowful pleasure in knowing that she was ready and willing to go when the Master called to her. The vale of death can never be A dark and dreary place: If looking up she still can see Her Father's shining face.
