At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Chaney of east Monroe township, Mr. D. Emmett Williams and MIss Sallie Chaney were married last Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. A. Bivens performed the marriage service. The wedding was a quiet home affair, only the near relatives of the contracting parties being present. After the wedding the bridal party went to the home of the groom's parents, Mr. T. J. Williams, where a fine supper was served. Mr. Williams is in the employ of the Seaboard railway and they will live at Hamlet. He is a young man of splendid character and has a great many friends. The bride is popular with all who know her and is a lady of fine character. The Monroe Journal Tuesday, January 4, 1910 Page 1 ----------------- In Memory of Mrs. Emmett Williams It is with a sad and lonely heart that we write of the departure of a dear friend and relative, Mrs. Emmett Williams, who died at her home in Hamlet on January the seventh, just after the sparkling sunlight was darkened and the radiant moon came forth. She had been almost an invalid for two years but her patience had kept the home bright for her husband and little daughter, who is ten year old, an age when she so much needs a mother's tender care. Mrs. Williams had a most beautiful disposition and a kind word for everybody and to know her was to love her. The home is left with a vacancy that can never be filled except by the dear Jesus who has promised us that in our sorrows he will not leave us comfortless. We are made to wonder why such a rare jewel was taken but we are not to question God's will. We know that the brightest jewels are taken and the most beautiful flowers are plucked. Mrs. Williams was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Chaney. She was married to Mr. Williams in 1909 and immediately went to live in Hamlet where she resided until her death. She was a faithful member of the Baptist church and took great delight in it. It is sweet to think of meeting her again where there will be no more separations or disappointments of any kind. Besides her parents four brothers and two sisters are left to mourn her loss, Messrs. H. F. and Zeb Chaney of Monroe township, J. H. and L. N. Chaney of Wingate and Mrs. Minnie Bivens of Wingate and Mrs. Jay Helms of east Monroe township. The funeral was conducted at the home of her parents by Rev. E. C.
