August 20, 1883. Shelbina Democrat, Shelbina, Missouri, 22 Aug 1883, Page 1, Column 1 A Sad Visitation. Last Wednesday morning the house of S. K. Dungan, two and a half miles northeast of Clarence, was struck by lightning. Two young men were up stairs, one cutting a piece of leather, the other holding it, the former was killed, the latter did not even feel the shock. Two girls were below, one sitting on the window sill, the other standing near; both were killed. A dog and chicken under the house were also killed. The three persons killed were children of Mr. Dungan. This is one of the saddest things we have had to chronicle. Mr. and Mrs. D. have the sympathy of the whole community.
