She was born in Wayne County to the late Barney and Leckie Musgrave Kirby and was married to the late Needham Massengill. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sibling. She was employed for a period of time at O'Berry Center, but most of her life was spent as an avid homemaker. She loved to garden and grow flowers. Read More	Aug. 26, 1922 - July 3, 2006 MOUNT OLIVE -- Sally Kirby Massengill, 83, died Monday at Sunbridge of Mount Olive. She was born in Wayne County to the late Barney and Leckie Musgrave Kirby and was married to the late Needham Massengill. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sibling. She was employed for a period of time at O'Berry Center, but most of her life was spent as an avid homemaker. She loved to garden and grow flowers. She was a member of Black Jack Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Black Jack Grove Free Will Baptist Church with the Revejds Dennis Pollock and Cliff Harwood officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. She is survived by a son, Fred Massengill and wife, Carolyn, of Goldsboro; daughters, Roxie Cauley of LaGrange and Sue Dixon and husband, Larry of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Diane M. Smith and husband, Roy, David Massengill and special friend, Michelle Cantu, Joseph Massengill, Betsy Gollick and husband, Allen, Erin Weeks, Christopher Cauley and wife, Nikki, Ivey Cauley, Kelly Dixon and Matthew Dixon and wife, Sarah; one great-grandchild, Seth Smith; sisters, Lexine Kirby Williams and husband, Jim, of Morganton and Nymph Lancaster of Goldsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her in-laws, William "Bill" Massengill and wife, Peggy, Carl Massengill and Mary Lou Gray, all of the Grantham community, Mollie Kirby of Raleigh and Ruth Kirby of Goldsboro. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lela Kirby Sasser, and brothers, Fred, Richard, Marion, Barney Jr., Edward and Carl Kirby. The family will receive friends Wednesday (tonight) from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Sue and Larry Dixon, 218 W. John St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Black Jack Grove Free Will Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Somerset Court, Goldsboro, and Sunbridge of Mount Olive for the loving care they provided to their mother.
