He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, during World War II. He received the Silver Star Medal with Bronze Oakleaf Cluster. He married Dorothy De Vos on April 21, 1949, in Sioux Center. The couple moved to Pipestone, MN, area where they farmed for 24 years. They returned to Sioux Center in 1973. He then worked for several area farmers and later with Walmart in Sioux Center. Survivors include two daughters, Sherllyn Klein of Hawarden and Barbara Bleyenberg of Edgerton, MN; a son, Wayne Klein of Bailey MI; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Langstraat of Sioux Center; three brothers, Clarence (Bertha) Klein of Orange City, James Klein of Jasper, MN, and Adrian (Albertha) Klein of Pipestone; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 15, 1993; a brother-in-law, Fred Langstraat; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Klein.
