Description	:	Sam Yecoshenko, 100, a Butte resident his entire life, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital. Sam Yecoshenko, son of Walter J. and Mary (Kohanes) Yecoshenko, was born Jan. 11, 1909 on his parents' farm 6 miles south of Butte, where he was raised. Read More	Sam Yecoshenko, 100, a Butte resident his entire life, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital. Sam Yecoshenko, son of Walter J. and Mary (Kohanes) Yecoshenko, was born Jan. 11, 1909 on his parents' farm 6 miles south of Butte, where he was raised. He received his education in the Byersville Township schools of McLean County. He was a member of the Butte Assembly of God Church and attended the North Central Bible Institute Seminary in Minneapolis, Minn. He later attended the Kief Liberty Baptist Church. He began farming with his father at an early age and, at the age of 14, learned to cut hay on the Joseph Kohanes farm. In addition to farming they also operated a trucking business which led to the beginning of Sam's real love, salvaging iron, machinery parts and antiques. He soon started the Butte Wrecking, Salvage and Antiques business. Sam was an extremely hard worker. He spent many hours buying, hauling and selling his auction sales treasures and was always willing to help out someone in need. On May 26, 1942, Sam entered the United States Army and served his country overseas during World War II. He received the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Service Medals and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his honorable discharge on October 1, 1945, he returned to the Butte area, where he continued to farm and operate his trucking and salvage businesses until retiring in 2006. Sam was a life member of the Assembly of God Church and a strong supporter of the Youth for Christ Organization. He was also a member of the Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post # 270 of Butte. He is survived by: 1 brother, Melvin (Ruth) Yecoshenko of Butte; 3 sisters, Emma VERBITSKY of Minot (FindAGrave # 47368251), and Gladys Eisenrich and Mabel ZALOMSKY, both of Butte; 2 sisters-in-law, Lydia Yecoshenko of Minot and Amy Yecoshenko of Butte; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Lawrence, Edward and his wife, Mabel, William and Walter; 1 sister, Ella Wolf and her husband, Charles Wolf; and brothers-in-law, Pete Verbitsky, Edward Zalomsky and George Eisenrich; nephews, Billy and Trent Yecoshenko; and niece, Ellen Wolf. Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to the Butte American Legion or Legion Auxiliary, or the Butte Cemetery. Funeral: Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Butte American Legion Hall. Visitation: Monday, November 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake, and for 1 hour before the service at the Legion Hall on Tuesday. Burial: Butte Cemetery.
