Dale, son of James and Barbara Dale, was born in Indiana, April 1, 1854, and died at his home February 8, 1921, age 66 years, 10 months and 7 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1856, shortly after their arrival here he was bereft of a mother's care, his father remarried and was given a mother's guidance where with his brothers and sisters, spent his young life on the old homestead 5 miles northeast of Pleasanton. Deceased was united in marriage to Julia Blakesley, December 30, 1877, to this union were born 11 children Elba, Everett, Ray, Ross, Glenn, Ree, Mrs. Alta Hamilton, Mrs. Gracie Cowles, Glada and Clarice all with the mother survive, except Glen, Clarice and one infant which preceded him to the better world. He was successful in all his enterprises, living on the farm since he was married surrounded by respect and confidence of his friends and neighbors as his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. His motto is life was to live and let live and did not believe in the strong, using their power in any way to crush the weak, but believe that everyone should have their equal rights, but never expected this to be on earth, but awaited the time when God should gather his saints home then oppression would cease and his aim in life was to be present at that great gathering. Early in life he was converted and joined the New Salem Baptist Church, where he was ever remained a true and honored member, always striving to do his duty and with his benevolent nature worked for the up building of the cause that point toward the mark of the high calling of life. He was ordained deacon in 1899 and ever remained faithful to the trust; he also served of years. His christian influence will be sadly missed from the home as clerk of the church, for a number church and community. He leaves to mourn his going his devoted wife, who with Glada and Ree remain at the old home where he will be sadly missed by children, grandchildren, aged step-mother, brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors. Surely a good man has gone from our midst, being a kind husband, indulgent father, true brother and honored citizen. The light of his life went out to shine again in the other world. God knows best and doeth all things well. The funeral services were held at the New Salem Baptist Church conducted by Rev. V.F. Walker, of Princeton, Mo, Thursday, February 10, 1921 and in spite of the bad roads was largely attended, the body being laid to rest in the New Salem Cemetery to await the general resurrection.
