Read More	Obituary for Archie Sexton; Transcribed from The Peterson Patriot, Peterson, Clay County, Iowa; page 6, Thursday, June 01, 1978: Archie Sexton, son of Floyd and Violet Sexton, was born on May 23, 1926 at Aurelia, Iowa. He died on May 13th, 1978 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines after a lengthy illness. He was raised by his parents in the Aurelia And Brooke areas. Archie received his education at the Brooke Consolidated School, near Peterson, now the site of the Midwest Christian Children’s Home. In July, 1945 he entered the US Army and served until Jan. of 1947. On June 28, 1947, Archie married Ruth Kudrle at the Methodist Church at Cherokee, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of a son, Michael Charles who was born on April 22, 1960. In June of 1947 Archie began work with the Iowa Public Service Co. and employed with the company for 31 years. From 1954 until 1967 he was the company’s local man in the Newell area. Archie and his family moved to Newell in 1954 and his presence in the community was an important one. He served on the Newell Town Council for four years and was a long-time member of the volunteer fire department in the town. In addition, Archie was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Royal Lodge No. 428, Mission Chapter 401 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also served as a member of the East Okoboji Beach Corp and is a past president of that organization. The interest of Archie Sexton in the affairs of the community is well attested by his community involvement. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd, a brother Wilbur who passed away on April 7, 1975. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and a son, Michael of Newell; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. George Townsend of Peterson; a sister, and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Quentin (Joyce) Sundberg of Linn Grove; a brother and his wife, Don and Donna of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur (Kaye) Sexton of Titonka; other relatives and many friends.
