"Seattle friend Dexter Horton helped finance his family's trip over here in 1875. a half brother already lived here. Samuel Olmstead chose the location for his homestead along the old Squaw Creek Trail between Yakima and "Robber's Roost", or Ellensburg, as it was later known. the farmland was good, flat with no rocks and his homestead was on Coleman Creek." Samuel Olmstead, his wife and three children - Phil, Jack and Clara - shared their home with other settlers ... The cabin was built by Samuel Olmstead of cottonwood logs found from trees growing in Yakima Canyon....
