Chumbley, was born in Pulaski county, Virginia, on May 29, 1847, and died at the home of his son Earl, near Medora, Iowa, on August 13, 1925, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 15 days. Samuel C, son of William A. and Nancy P. Chumbley, was born in Pulaski county, Virginia, on May 29, 1847, and died at the home of his son Earl, near Medora, Iowa, on August 13, 1925, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 15 days. In the year of 1860 he came with his parents from Virginia to Iowa. He lived the greater part of his life in Clarke and Warren counties. On the first day of September 1875, he was united in marriage to Jane Clary. To this union eleven children were born, eight sons and three daughters. His wife passed on December 1821. One son, Samuel, also preceded him to the Great Beyond. Mr. Chumbley is survived by thirty-eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. The deceased is also survive by two brothers, Joseph G. and W. H., who were at his bedside at the time of his death. He has been afflicted for twenty years with rheumatism, and suffered untold pain. As he neared the end of this earthly journey he expressed his faith in Christ and said he was ready to go. Left us, yes, for ever more; But we hope to meet our loved one, On the bright and happy shore. Funeral services held at Bethel Chapel, Saturday, August 15, 1825, at 2:00 o'clock. Interment in Bethel cemetery, Rev. C. E. Wilson officiating.
