One year later his father enlisted in the Union army and served three years with Company H, 24th Iowa infantry. More than this for he was a prisoner of war at Salisbury one of the infamous dens where captured Union soldiers were starved and treated "worse than dogs." Glover was born June 28, 1861. One year later his father enlisted in the Union army and served three years with Company H, 24th Iowa infantry. He never shirked a duty and therefore endured all the ordinary hardships and dangers of a soldier's life. More than this for he was a prisoner of war at Salisbury one of the infamous dens where captured Union soldiers were starved and treated "worse than dogs." He is still living and hale and hearty, but the prattling child of 1861-2-3-4 now sleeps the sleeps that knows no waking in the Marion cemetery. He died at the home of his parents on 5th avenue. The funeral services were held yesterday, Monday, at the home of his parents. Both father and mother, one brother, George, and two sisters, Mrs. David Klomb and Miss Augusta Glover survive. Also a wife and one son. Many years ago he engaged in railroad train service. His home in recent years has been in Topeka, Kansas. The sympathy of many friends goes out to the bereaved family. The funeral sermon of Samuel Glover was preached by Pastor Beatty of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by Messrs Williams and McBurney and the Misses Lulu Toms and Blanche Hickman. The pall bearers were Sons of Veterans, Mesrs Taylor, Dennis, Sutliff, Burley, Grommon and Canedy. **Wife's name was Charlotte Neal, son was Jack. He developed a severe cold three years previous and it turned into consumption.
