Tomlinson, a resident of Woodbury County for 39 years and a Civil War veteran, died at his home near Bronson Tuesday following an illness of two years. Death was due to dropsy. Mr. Tomlinson was born in Ohio in 1847. On August 2, 1862, he enlisted in the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry and served throughout the war, being with General Sherman on his famous march to the sea. Samuel C. Tomlinson, a resident of Woodbury County for 39 years and a Civil War veteran, died at his home near Bronson Tuesday following an illness of two years. Death was due to dropsy. Mr. Tomlinson was born in Ohio in 1847. On August 2, 1862, he enlisted in the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry and served throughout the war, being with General Sherman on his famous march to the sea. He was discharged in June 1865. In 1875 Mr. Tomlinson was married to Inez Tracewell at Sigourney, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife in June 1896. In 1902 he married Mrs. Anna Lother at Anthon, Iowa, who survives him. Other survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Harriet Wilsey, Ocaton, South Dakota; Mrs. Gladys Hair, Owego, Iowa; Mrs. Bernice McClarty, Missouri Valley, Iowa; and Madge Tomlinson of Bronson; and five sons, J. L. of Moville; Roy of Miles City, Montana; Lloyd of Omaha, Nebraska; William of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and Clifford of Bronson, Iowa. Mr. Tomlinson was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Lucky Valley, Iowa. Services will be held at the W. Harry Christy Chapel in Morningside at 9 a.m. Friday. Rev. B.W. Riner of Moville will officiate. Interment will be in the Lucky Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers have been chosen from the membership of Henry C. Wink Post, American Legion, and the Legion will have charge of the burial service.
