The deceased resided at various times at the following places: Addington county, Canada, Kankakee county, Ill., Jackson county, Minn., Page county, Iowa. Then in 1878 came to Thayer county, Neb., where he has lived ever since. In 1845, in Addington county, Canada, he was married to Miss Mary Snider. Lockwood To this union, 9 children were born: SAMANTHA JANE, SAMUEL AUGUSTA, SILAS W., GEORGE ALBERT, SARAH E., AGNES ELIZABETH, ALICE A., EMMA ANN, and, MYRON DAMON. All of the children except Myron were born in Ontario Canada. Myron was born in Jackson Co. Minnesota. On the 1861 Canada Census is Samuel D., Mary, Samantha, Samuel A., Silas, George, Albert, Sarah, and Agnes, On the 1870 Federal census, is Samuel D. and wife Mary, with children Silas, George, Sarah, Alice, and Emma, in Belmont, Jackson County, MN. Directly after them on the 1870 census is their son Samuel A. Lockwood. Land records, dated 05 Jan, 1876, show that there was a homestead parcel involving 80.0000 acres for Samuel D., and Samuel A., 5th Meridian or Watershed, Township 103 N, Range 34 W, Section 10. On the 1900 Federal census, is widower Samuel D., with children Emma, and, Myron, in Hubbell, Thayer County, NE. Note: The Hubbell Cemetery is actually located just over the Nebraska border in Kansas. Obituary from the Hebron Champion, Thayer Co., Nebraska, August 26, 1904: "Samuel D. Lockwood wa born in Rensselaer county, N . Y., February 1, 1817, died Aug. 18,1904. The deceased resided at various times at the following places: Addington county, Canada, Kankakee county, Ill., Jackson county, Minn., Page county, Iowa. Lockwood died Thursday morning, about 5 o'clock, at his home, seven miles north of town, at the advanced age of nearly eighty-eight years. He had been sick about a week from an attack of cholera morbus. Mr. Lockwood has been a resident of this county twenty-five years, coming here in 1879. He was a good citizen and was highly esteemed by his neighbors and friends as a man of sterling qualities, honest, honorable and upright in all his transactions with his fellow men. The funeral services were held yesterday at 1 o'clock, at the home of the deceased, after which the body was conveyed to the Hubbell cemetery for interment." NOTE: DISCLAIMER - Information Updated. See below. Numerous on-line families have Samuel as Homer and Sarah Lockwood's son. Upon viewing Homer Lockwood's will, I am not certain that Homer (Memorial 40533773) and Sarah Benedict Lockwood were the parents of Samuel Dustin Lockwood as there is no Samuel listed as an heir. I have Samuel's death certificate that does not name his parents. I have his obituary that says he was born in Rensselaer County, NY, which differs from online records that have him born in Victory, Cayuga County, NY, to Homer and Sarah Lockwood. However, census records have Samuel born in NY while Homer's have him born in CT, except for the 1850 census which has NY. I have death records for Samuel's children and they specify only that he was born in NY, no county and no town. I hired a professional genealogist who specializes in Rensselaer Co. NY but nothing was found for a birth for Samuel in 1817. Therefore, unless I have proof of a connection, I am separating Samuel from Homer and Sarah. Samuel's parents are unknown. - Gwen Lockwood, Apr 30, 2013 UPDATE, 05/21/16 TO ALL WHO MAY BE CONCERNED!!!!!! I am CERTAIN that Homer and Sarah Benedict Lockwood is NOT the parents of Samuel Dustin Lockwood. However, Samuel is related to Homer and Sarah, they're just not his parents. My paternal Lockwood uncle did his Y-DNA on Family Tree DNA and it has been confirmed that his most distant ancestor is Robert Lockwood, b. cir. 1600, Combs, UK. Robert and Susanna Norman Lockwood had 10 children. At some point my 2nd great grandfather was attached to Homer's family. My line is part of one of those other families. The director of the DNA study for the Lockwood Family Project on Family Tree DNA, Peter Lockwood, confirms that Homer is NOT Samuel's father. The DNA shows there is a 99.12% probability that my uncle is a descendant of Robert Lockwood of Combs, Suffolk UK. In case anyone wants to dispute the above conclusions, the following is per Peter Lockwood, Project Director for the Lockwood Project at Family Tree DNA: "The children of Homer Lockwood and Sally Benedict - George Benedict Lockwood, Samantha Lockwood, Isaac Lockwood and Homer Nicols Lockwood - were all born in Cayuga County New York, most likely in the town of Victory or Cato. Samuel Dustin was born in Rensselaer County. Cayuga County is on the shores of Lake Ontario whereas Rensselaer County is about 300km east near the city of Albany. There is no evidence that Homer and Sally lived in Rensselaer County. Abigail Dustin/Dusten parents were Samuel Dustin/Dusten and Margaret Aitken - they both died in Grafton, Rensselaer County, in 1812 and 1813 respectively.
