Root, aged forty-six years and fifteen days. Elder Samuel E. Root was born in Saulsbury, Connecticut, June 13th, 1835. Root--At his residence near Exeter, Nebraska, June 28th, 1881, of general dropsy, Elder Samuel E. Root, aged forty-six years and fifteen days. Elder Samuel E. Root was born in Saulsbury, Connecticut, June 13th, 1835. In the autumn of that year, his father, Mr. Edwin Root, moved to Ohio, and settled in NOrton, Summit county. In the year 1857, Samuel removed to Center, Rock county, Wisconsin, where in 1860 he married Miss Eliza Scripture. In the year 1872, with his family he moved to Nebraska, and stopped at Crete, where his father and three sisters now reside. After remaining in Crete a few months, he removed to Exeter, and settled on the farm, east of town. Elder Root was the father of six children, five sons and one daughter. He has buried two children, one in Wisconsin and one at Exeter. Elder S.E. Root obeyed the Gospel of Christ, September 12, 1852 at Streetsboro, Ohio, where he united with the Church of Christ. In 1876 he was one that helped organize the little band of Disciples into a church, at this place, and was chosen elder, which position he held to the time of his death. Brother Root was a Christian in every sense of the word. The salvation of men was the great desire of his heart; in the church he was an acive member, always anxious for its harmony and prosperity. Long will his council and good advice be remembered by the sorrowing members of the church. Brother Root was loved by all who knew him; he always had a cheerful word for everyone, and was perfrectly honest in all his dealings. In the family he was a loving husband and a kind father; never a harsh or unkind word was heard there, but all was love, peace, and harmony. Never was an evening permitted to pass but wht he called his family around the family alter, to thank his Heavenly Father for his favors, and ask for the continuance of his blessings. Of such a man applies the language of Rev. xiv, 13, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." During his last sickness he suffered greatly, but he bore his pain without a murmur. A wife has lost a loving husband,--the children have lost a kind father,--the church a faithful member,--humanity--a friend.
