Born on August 31, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel Erwin Mabry, Sr. and Ada Bessie (Holder) Mabry. Retired from Arrow Automotive as purchasing manager, he was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church, a past member of the Optimist Club, the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mildred Frances Aycock Mabry; a son, Samuel Steve Mabry, Sr. and his wife Peggy of Spartanburg; a sister, Lucy M. Rogers and her husband Furman of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Tonya Harvey and her husband Don; a grandson, Samuel Steve Mabry, Jr. and his wife Shelly; a great-granddaughter, Katie Godfrey; and three great-grandsons, Travis Godfrey, Samuel Steve Mabry, III, and Benjamin Mabry. He was predeceased by three sisters, Grace M. Hames, Mae Lillie M. LeMaster, and Nellie M. Hames; and a brother, Lewis Mabry. Visitation was held 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jack A. Caldwell, the Rev. Jack E. Hames, and the Rev. Walt Forrester. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church, 820 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
