Description	:	In his early days he was connected with the river traffic and he and his father made many trips to New Orleans trading extensively in the river towns and with the plantations of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, as was the custom in those early frontier days. Many thrilling experiences were theirs in their journeys up and down those rivers. Later, father and son engaged in the "Queensware" business- dealing with ceramics, dishes and the like, glassware etc..and for many years they were among the most prosperous merchants in Ripley. Later, father and son engaged in the "Queensware" business- dealing with ceramics, dishes and the like, glassware etc..and for many years they were among the most prosperous merchants in Ripley. In his later years Samuel Frances engaged in the sugar business in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sometime before he died he had stroke and was a semi-invalid at his home in Ripley.
