Description	:	Samuel Franklin Hanan, 64, of Twisp, died March 14, 2007, in Wenatchee surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Twisp to S. Walter and Naydeen Hanan. His grandparents, Frank and Arra Webb and Samuel and Anna K. Hanan, were Methow Valley pioneers. His grandparents, Frank and Arra Webb and Samuel and Anna K. Hanan, were Methow Valley pioneers. Sam attended school for all 12 grades in Twisp, graduating from Twisp High School in 1961. He worked for Boeing, followed by several years with the Wagner Lumber Co. in Twisp. He married Rita Austin of Twisp in 1965, and they moved the next year to Alderwood Manor, where he worked on a survey crew for Gray and Osborne for two years. In 1968 they moved back to Twisp, where they have lived since. He was a Little League coach, soccer coach and Cub Scout den master. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, community volleyball, woodworking projects and photography. Sam worked for 33 years for the Forest Service, both at the Methow Valley Ranger District and at the supervisor's office in Okanogan. After retirement in 2002, he worked for Cates & Erb in Omak, did small contract projects, and was a driver with the Forest Service during fires. Last fall he was coordinator of the Tripod BAER project to rehabilitate Forest roads after the Tripod fire. Sam helped preserve and improve the old Twisp school, now the Methow Valley Community Center. He served on its board of directors from 2002-2005, on the Twisp Planning Commission from 1988-1995, and on the Twisp Town Council from 1996-1999 and 2006 to the present. He is survived by his wife, Rita; son Shawn Hanan (Terri) of Camano Island; daughter Sara Hanan of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter Caitlin Hanan of Camano Island; sisters Leona (Dave) Johnston of Okanogan and Helen Dodge of Tumwater; sister-in-law Linda Hanan of Tacoma; uncle Paul Webb of Milton; aunts Edith (Wink) Byram of Twisp and Ruth Webb of Twisp; mother-in-law Eileen Austin of Omak; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steve, baby brother and sister Richard and Molly, and nephew Brad Johnston. A memorial service was held at Precht's Methow Valley Chapel in Twisp Monday, (March 19). It was followed by a gathering at the Methow Valley Senior Citizens Center in Twisp.
