LAGER Mr. Samuel Frederick Lager, son of Peter G. and Sarah Lager, was born in Whitebreast township, Lucas county, Iowa, on December 20, 1874, and met a tragic death on Sunday morning, December 21, 1930, at the age of 56 years and 1 day, when he was killed by a train. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Harry Secor, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Helge Johnson, of the Swedish Mission church, were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Beardsley Funeral Home, followed by interment in the Niswender cemetery. Deceased grew to young manhood in Whitebreast township, and was married in Chariton on February 1, 1905 to Miss Myrtle Finch, who survives him. To them three sons were born, all of whom are living. They are Stewart Lager, of Hickory Creek, Mo.; and Paul and James, of Chariton. Since his marriage, Mr. Lager has resided in Chariton and for many years has been employed with the C. B. & Q. Railway Company as a telegraph operator at Harrison, formerly known as Whitebreast Junction. It was while he was going to his work on a railroad tricycle that he was struck by a mail train and instantly killed, the accident occurring a short distance west of what is known as the Wheeler crossing, about 7:30 a.m. Mr. Lager was a splendid citizen, highly regarded by all who knew him for his upright character and genial disposition He had been a faithful member of the Baptist church for many years and his life was filled with good deeds. He was an ideal husband and father, devoted to his family, and always had a kind word for those about him. He had a host of warm friends who are greatly saddened by his untimely death and who will extend heartfelt sympathy to the grief stricken ones. Besides the wife and three sons mentioned above, he is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Emma Lindstrom, of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Freda Johnson, of Chariton; and Gust A. Lager, of Des Moines.
