He took sick the Thursday before his death, and from the first his condition was critical. He was born Nov. 19, 1877, in Ray County, Mo., and came to Kansas about 36 years ago. Sam worked in the coal mines in this district for many years, but recently he has been farming east of Cherokee. He was married to Miss Lilla Dobbins on Oct. 9, 1899. Three children were born to this union: Hugh of Girard, John and Phyllis Lane of the home. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. and S.B.A. lodges. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon with Rev. H.J. Sterling of the M.E. Church of Uniontown, a former pastor, in charge. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Lilla Lane; two sons, H.G. Lane of Girard, John Lane of the home, and one daughter, Phyllis, of the home; two grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Parsons of Mineral and Mrs. Josie Berecroft of Douglas, Wyoming; and four brothers, Ed Lane and Delbert Lane of Gillette, Wyo.; Albert Lane of Orland, Calif.; and Claude Lane of McCune. He was laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery. Our sympathy goes out to the family in this sad hour. Contributed by Cheryl White
