(Saint John, NB) "Suddenly, on Sunday morning, Mr. Samuel Grost (sic), a native of England, aged 55 years - Funeral will take place this day, (Wednesday,) at 1 o'clock, from the New Brunswick Hotel, Charlotte-street, when friends and acquaintances are requested to attend." Morning News, Wednesday, December 6, 1848. (Saint John, NB) His burial record for the Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery says: "GORST, Samuel (Trader) 4 Dec 1848 age 55." He is buried in plot # SE 148 which is owned by "CLARK". After Samuel's death Elizabeth removed to Bangor, Maine, with her daughter Mary (1860 census for Bangor, Maine), and married Marcellus Joy on February 14, 1856 (Penobscot County Marriage Records). John was adopted by Stephen and Hannah(Phillips)Hill of Calais, Maine. Not clear what immediately happened to Samuel (Jr.) and Charles Richard, but they both served in the American Civil War, along with John. John and Samuel served in Company A, of the Thirteenth Maine Volunteer Infantry. All four eventually moved to Minnesota after the Civil War, in the general vicinity of Little Falls/Belle Prairie. Later on, John and Samuel moved to Port Orchard, Kitsap County, Washington. And some time after that Mary and her husband Moses Coe moved to California and then to Washington state. Charles Richard stayed in the Little Falls area.
