Samuel Grant Helton, age 86, of Clinton, departed this earthly life to meet his Heavenly Father on November 3, 2014. He was one of eight children born to Alexander and Maggie Medlin Helton. Mr. Helton was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He retired from the Department of Energy where he was a Security Analyst. Mr. Helton was a long-time member and faithful deacon of New Salem Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer for over 30 years. He loved people and used his gift of hospitality to serve people and honor God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Eula Mae Helton and his Grand God-child, Peili Jane Engle. He is survived by Sister, Vaughtie Oaten and husband Ralph; Sisters-in-law, Erma Lee Helton and Georgia Kuykendall; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including special niece, Carolyn Ramsey. He was also loved by his God-children who counted it a blessing to have grown up having Sam as a special part of their lives: Leisa and Roger Fair; Sarah and Adam Engle and their children, Eli, Micah, Zeke and Asher; Dale and Alicia Phillips and daughter Harper; Myra and Reed Noss; April and Armando Ubeda and their children Kai and Ren; Clay and Max Noss and Lori and Robert Ihle and their children Abigail and Alexandra. Sam will also be missed by his two special life-long friends, Ernest Wilson and Bob Stone. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4:30 – 7:00pm at New Salem Baptist Church in Clinton. A Celebration of his life will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Kenny Rains, Rev. Milton Bolton and Rev. Mark Gallaher officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10am on Friday for a graveside service at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the New Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 1030 Oak Ridge Highway, Clinton, TN 37716. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements
