A cub pack in Toronto sent the wreath to Monticello Police Chief Lawrence Kraud with a card saying "In honor and sympathy to our American fellow cub." Sammy Joe was killed Jan. 12 when he stepped in front of a bullet fired at his mother, Mrs. Alma Moss, den mother of his scout group, by a roomer in their home who was angry because Mrs. Moss spurned his marriage offer. Sammy Joe was wearing his blue cub uniform when the shooting occurred. He was buried in the uniform. Mrs. Moss was shot through the head as she tried to help her fallen son. She remains in critical condition in a hospital. The slayer, Albert Colvin, was sentenced to life in prison.
