Description	:	Samuel Rockley, Sr., popularly known as Pap Rockley, was born November 10, 1840 in Nottingham, England and died at his home near Madison, Kansas January 29, 1911, aged seventy years, two months and nineteen days. He saw the first steam railway built in England and helped to build the first railroad in Asiatic Turkey. He came to America, December 25, 1870, landing at Philadephia. Read More	Samuel Rockley, Sr., popularly known as Pap Rockley, was born November 10, 1840 in Nottingham, England and died at his home near Madison, Kansas January 29, 1911, aged seventy years, two months and nineteen days. He saw the first steam railway built in England and helped to build the first railroad in Asiatic Turkey. He came to America, December 25, 1870, landing at Philadephia. From there he moved to Springfield, Illinois, where he resided seven years. In December 1878 he came to Madison, Kansas with which place he has ever since been associated. On December 8, 1864 in Canstantinople, Turkey he was united in matrimony with Miss Jane Vile who preceded him to the spirit world twelve years ago. The this union were born ten children, five boys and five girls, eight of whom survive. One boy died in Constantinople in 1868 and one girl died at Madison, Kansas in 1883. Mr. Rockley helped to build the Howard branch from Emporia to Moline. He followed the business of railroading throughout his long life. He was a devoted member of the Dunkard church for the past thirty years. The funeral was held at the Dunkard church northwest of Madison, Tuesday at 2 o'clock.
