Samuel Miller was born in Mason county, West Virginia, January, 1894, and passed away to his reward Sunday evening, Dec. 29, 1918, at 8:30 o'clock, being 24 years, 11 months and 16 days of age. Samuel Miller was born in Mason county, West Virginia, January, 1894, and passed away to his reward Sunday evening, Dec. 29, 1918, at 8:30 o'clock, being 24 years, 11 months and 16 days of age. Sam was the youngest son of a family of eleven children, consisting of six girls and five boys, an infant sister having died some time ago. In 1911 when he was 17 years of age he set out from his old home in Virginia to come to Iowa and located in Cedar county. On April 12, 1914, he was united in marriage to Emma Thordsen and to this union two sons were born--Glen, aged 3 years, and Clell, aged 2 years. Sam was a man who was liked by all those that came in contact with him, whether in a business way or as a neighbor. He was always ready to help anyone in need. A kind and loving husband and father he will be deeply missed from the home circle. Besides the children and a loving and devoted wife, a father and mother living in Virginia, four brothers and five sisters, numerous other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn his loss. On account of epidemic conditions a short funeral held at Woodbridge cemetery in charge of Rev. Will Kirwin, pastor of the Methodist church of Tipton, and the remains were laid to rest there. We wish to thank the relatives, neighbors and friends for the help and sympathy extended in our bereavement in the loss of your beloved husband and father; also we desire to thank the pallbearers and those who sent flowers.
