Harter, resident of Marshalltown for 35 years, died at his home there Monday noon, death coming rather suddenly following an acute heart attack, according to word reaching friends in Nevada. Mr. Harter had been in failing health for twelve years and for the last two or three years had been confined to his home much of the time. Mr. Harter was born in Jasper county, April 9,l 1868. With the exception of two years spent in Kansas he had lived all his life in Jasper county and in Marshalltown. He was a bridge carpenter by trade and had worked for many years for the county. He was married in Marshalltown, May 24, 1892 to Miss Kate McDonald, of Nevada. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Harter came to Nevada, where they made their home for a year. They went to Marshalltown thirty-five years ago and had since made their home there. Mr. and Mrs. Harter were the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Cora Anson, who died twelve years ago. Mr. Harter is survived by his wife and two grandchildren, Maxine and Ronald Anson both of Marshalltown. Mr. Harter attended the Methodist church. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America, the Royal Neighbors and Banner Lodge, 123, I. O. O. F., the camp and the canton. For years he had been a trustee in the Odd Fellows lodge, at the time of his death he was treasurer of Banner lodge, and he had been thru all the chairs of the lodge. The funeral will be held at the Purcel Funeral Home Marshalltown, Wednesday at 10:30, after which the funeral party will accompany the body to the Nevada cemetery for interment.
