Submitted by Carl Nollen (#48232813) Newton Edinger Newton Edinger, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Edinger, was born in Orange County, Indiana, June 7 1844, and came to Iowa with his parents while young and grew to manhood near Marysville. Submitted by Carl Nollen (#48232813) Newton Edinger Newton Edinger, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Edinger, was born in Orange County, Indiana, June 7 1844, and came to Iowa with his parents while young and grew to manhood near Marysville. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in Co. H 17th Regiment, Iowa Infantry, and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He was united in marriage with Eliza Banks, and to this union 1 son was born, and the wife passed away. He was later united in marriage with Hester Ann McGrue and to this union five children were born, four daughters, two of them with the mother having preceded him in death. Henry, the only son lost his life in the world war in France. One of the daughters is Mrs. Lewis Gray of Knoxville. Mr. Edinger departed this life at his home in Marysville, March 29 1921, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 22 days. Those left to mourn his departure are two daughters and other relatives. Funeral service was held Thursday, March 31st, 1921, at the M.E. church, Marysville, conducted by Rev R.S. Tague of Bussey. Interment was made in the Marysville Cemetery. ------------------------- I'm pretty sure His name is Samuel Newton. Not Newton Samuel. Although, even though he is my Great Great Granduncle. I'm not positive beyond a shadow of a doubt. Pretty sure though. And it could go either way, as his Mother had a brother named Samuel and a brother named Newton. Almost all, if not all, of the documents about him, and with him in them, say Newton. My Grandma said Samuel. His 1st wife was Anna Little Aug 18 1865 Marriage <<< They had at least one child, Calvin Edinger. Although Calvin is not necessarily Anna's, since he was born in 1862 and they weren't married until 1865. Or... Maybe Calvin is Anna's son, and not Newton's biological son, and Newton adopted him? 1870 census <<< His 2nd wife was Louisa L Marshall or Banks. Probably her 2nd Marriage too. March 3rd 1885 Marriage <<< And I would like some feedback, from anyone, in regards to Samuel Newton and Hester Ann's daughter Minnie. i.e. how could she be in censuses: 1895 Iowa State Census name: Newton Eddinger event place: Marion, Iowa estimated birth year: 1843 name: Hesteran Eddinger estimated birth year: 1859 name: Esabel Eddinger estimated birth year: 1885 name: Miney Eddinger event date: 1895 estimated birth year: 1888 name: Henry Eddinger estimated birth year: 1891 name: Buley Eddinger estimated birth year: 1893 and have a marriage document with her same name, same parents and same DOB, after she died? (See Minnie Edinger's grave below. She died at 11 days) Was she a twin with the same name? Or was there an impostor? either dead or alive. Pretty mysterious. And his 4th wife was Kittie Veldma. April 25th, 1904 Marriage <<< If she was previously married, that is probably not her maiden name. Kittie either died or they divorced before 1910. Newton in 1910 So, like his sister,Mary Edinger [Snyder] we know Newton died either in, or, after 1920.
