He was the son of the late David and Amanda Remsburg Ausherman, and was a member of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren which was founded by his father. Mr. Ausherman was an active Republican and was elected to the office of Judge of the Orphans Court in 1950. He was serving his third term at the time of his death.
