Description	:	Sam "Dick" Knowles, 74, of Leavenworth, and a former resident of Cashmere, died Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2005, at his home. He was born on May 13, 1929, at Wenatchee, Washington to Sam and Lucylle (Kyner) Knowles. He grew up and received his education in Cashmere and in 1948, graduated from Cashmere High School. Read More	Sam "Dick" Knowles, 74, of Leavenworth, and a former resident of Cashmere, died Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2005, at his home. He was born on May 13, 1929, at Wenatchee, Washington to Sam and Lucylle (Kyner) Knowles. He grew up and received his education in Cashmere and in 1948, graduated from Cashmere High School. Following high school he began working for Schmitten Lumber Company in the woods. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Demolition Expert, and following his honorable discharge in 1957, he returned to Cashmere. On September 20, 1958, he married Dolores Skelton at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and they made their home in Leavenworth, where Dick continued to work as a logger for Schmitten Lumber Company. In 1970, he was employed by the Chelan County Road Department as an equipment operator until his retirement in 1992. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved his early morning rides, where most often he could be found cutting wood, hunting or fishing. His passion for trap shooting carried on throughout his life. Dick had many fond memories of all his friends he met as a member of the Leavenworth and Cashmere Gun Clubs. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and had served as a volunteer for the Cashmere Fire Department from 1950, to 1958, and the Leavenworth Fire Department from 1958, until 1990. Dick also served six years as a councilman for the City of Leavenworth. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Knowles of the family home; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Vervia Knowles of Snohomish; daughter and son-in-law, Kellee and Michael Barney of Tucson, AZ; grandson, Jarryd Barney of Tucson; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Bill Shaffner of Kent. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dick's family wishes to thank Hospice, and Byron Wilcox and family, for all their help, support and friendship during his illness. A Graveside Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Sam "Dick" Knowles will be conducted at 11 o'clock Friday morning, July 8, 2005, at the gravesite in the Mt. View Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial in his name to the Central Washington Hospital Hospice, P. O. Box 1887, Wenatchee, WA 98807. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
