Description	:	Van Buren County Register 12 December 1929 SAMUEL MARSHALL Samuel Marshall, son of Wm. and Jane Crawford Marshall, was born in County Donegal, Ireland, May 1, 1842, and passed away at his home near Utica, Iowa, Friday morning, Dec. 6, 1929, aged 87 years, 8 months and 5 days. With his father, mother and four brothers and three sisters, he crossed the Ocean in 1850, arriving in America Jan. 2, 1851. Read More	Van Buren County Register 12 December 1929 SAMUEL MARSHALL Samuel Marshall, son of Wm. and Jane Crawford Marshall, was born in County Donegal, Ireland, May 1, 1842, and passed away at his home near Utica, Iowa, Friday morning, Dec. 6, 1929, aged 87 years, 8 months and 5 days. With his father, mother and four brothers and three sisters, he crossed the Ocean in 1850, arriving in America Jan. 2, 1851. Modes of travel were not so swift then as the present day and to the small boy of 8 years, the six weeks and four days on the ocean seemed a long time. They came to Illinois and settled on a farm southeast of Carthage where they lived for 50 years. Here the father, mother and one sister passed away. In 1870 he came to Iowa. His parents were staunch Presbyterians and in early childhood he was baptized into the Presbyterian church. He was a man of sterling qualities and in his quiet unassuming way endeavored to do justly, always faithful to his duty to his fellowmen. He was united in marriage Sept. 19, 1872, to Lucinda West, and to this union were born ten children, five of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow and five children, two sons and three daughters as follows: Mrs. Anna Teter of Fairfield, Mrs. Lucinda McFadden of Portland, Oregon, Margaret Marshall of Muscatine, Samuel R. of Des Moines and Elmer E. at home. Besides these he leaves ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Pearce of the Congregational church of Keosauqua officiating. Interment was in Dibble cemetery. Mrs. John Nelson and Mrs. Mildred Logan sang, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” and “Going Down the Valley.” --------------- We desire to thank our neighbors and friends for the help and sympathy expressed in words and deeds during our bereavement.
