Description	:	Samuel Rue Lee was my great, great grandfather. He was the son of Benjamin Lee and Elizabeth M. Lee. He was the oldest of their seven children. Samuel married Mary Ann Elizabeth Fogle and had six children. (Fogle connection) Her father was Jacob Fogle, his father was John Fogle and his Dad was Anthony. He served in Virgina during the war. He came to South Carolina at the end of the war. (He have Swiss and German background. ) Samuel Rue Lee fought in the Civil War from 1861-1864. He died of yellow fever on Sullivan Island in Charleston Harbor, Charleston , S.C. He was a PVT.,Co.l.,2nd.S.C. Artillery. On April 17, 1999 at Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church Orangeburg County, South Carolina they had a dedication service of Southern Crosses of Honor Honoring Samuel Rue Lee and his brother Benjamin H. Lee(1823-1863) Pvt.,Co.l,2ndS.C. Artillery. SCV Charge read at the service: "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember it is your duty to see that the true history of the south is presented to future generations." "Nothing is ended until it is forgotten. That which is held in memory still endures and is real." We are grateful, dear Lord, for forefathers who gave us a glorious heritage. Keep ever in our minds and hearts a spirit of fervent gratitude. May we rededicate our lives to a fufillment of service for Thee, and may the blessing of God rest and abide here forever mre. AMEN" The three paragraphs above were part of the Dedication Service of Southern Crosses of Honor (Honoring Benjamin H. Lee and Samuel Rue Lee) Samuel Rue Lee is my great, great, grandfather. Janet Lee Haeger His marker was placed there in 1999.(at Two Mile Swamp) His body was buried on Sullivan Island, Charleston, SC. The grave has been washout to sea.
