Description	:	Samuel Garner was first married to Clemmie Robb on May 30, 1884, in Davis County, Iowa. His parents on that marriage record were named as Henry and Emily (Merritt) Garner. These are also the names of Samuel's parents given on his death certificate. Emily Merrit was first married to John H. Halbert on Aug. 6, 1855, in Davis County, Iowa. The correct name is Samuel Garner. Sam's obituary, which I have transcribed below, stated he was to be buried in Eben Taylor cemetery near Drakesville. This is incorrect. Shaul Cemetery does have a record of Sam being buried here in Block 3, Lot 212 ; in fact, they provided me with a copy of his obituary from their files. Samuel's death certificate, a copy of which I have posted here, may also be seen in familysearch.org and ancestry.com, and it showed his burial place as Shaul Cemetery. -------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Daily Courier," Monday, May 2, 1938, Page 10: SAM GARNER, RESIDENT 40 YEARS, DIES Sam Garner, 72, of 606 North Weller street, died the Ottumwa hospital today at 9:30 a.m. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John [sic] Garner and was born at Unionville April 14, 1866. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last 40 years, was a member of the S.B.A., No. 657. Surviving are his wife, Carrie; two daughters, Mrs. Will Malone of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Mrs. G.H. Wingo of Ft. Cobb, Okla.; a stepson, Floyd Sedore of Ottumwa; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Guy Johnston of Kirkville, and a brother, Oliver Garner of St. Lawrence, S.D. Services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Johnson's funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. A.L. Worth. Burial will be in Eben Taylor cemetery near Drakesville.
