Description	:	Samuel Stam, 95, formerly of Keosauqua, died Dec. 7, 2011, at Crestview Health Care Center in Brownsville, Tenn. He was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Salt Creek Township in Davis County to Mike and Paralee Strickland Stam. He married Leona Watkins Nov. 16, 1941, in Lancaster, MO. She died Nov. 15, 1988. He was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Salt Creek Township in Davis County to Mike and Paralee Strickland Stam. He married Leona Watkins Nov. 16, 1941, in Lancaster, MO. She died Nov. 15, 1988. Sam grew up in Davis County, started work at Swift & Co. In Bloomfield, served in the U.S. Navy 1942-45 and was stationed in North Africa. Following discharge, he re-joined Swift in Bloomfield, transferred to Swift in Ottumwa, then owned and operated the Skelly gas station in Agency, was a partner in Floris Creamery and Stam & Whan Salvage Co. and worked for Raiston-Purina out of St. Louis, MO, and Ottumwa Feed Co. The stams lived in Bloomfield, Agency, Floris and Ottumwa and moved to Keosauqua in 1983. In 2003, Sam moved to Stanton, Tenn., to live with his daughter and son-in-law. He was a 60-year member of Olive Branch Lodge No. 21, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Agency. He received the Governor's volunteer Award in 1997 and was an active member of Keosauqua Lions Club, where he was honored with the Warren Coleman award for outstanding service to Lionism. Sam's hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards. Surviving are his daughter, Sandra(Elwyn)Smith of Stanton, Tenn.; his son, Sam E.(Marcia)Stam of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Jim D.(Tammy Passet)Huff of Mt. Pleasant, Laurie(Karem)Hamed of Marietta, Ga., Stephanie(Scott)Perry of Ottumwa and Heather(Shannon)Bartlett of Eads, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Reno and Elini Underwood; and a brother, Myron "Tiny" Stam. Another brother, Elmo Stam was living at the time of Sam's death but died Dec. 14, 2011. To carry out Sam's wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be 10 am Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua; with Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating, followed by Masonic rites by Olive Branch Lodge and Keosauqua Lodge. Burial of cremains will be in Floris Cemetery with flag presentation by Beer-Barker American Legion Post, Keosauqua. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
