From whence he emigrated to Barnstable, Mass. about 1663. He was the first Storrs who came to America and from him nearly all of the name in this country have decended. Grandson of CORDALL STORRS, died 10 Oct 1616 at York, England. Cordall Storrs married to Isabel REDSHAW Great-grandson of Robert STORRS, died Feb 1589. Robert Storrs married Mabbell HAMOND. Great-great-grandson of William STORRES. A transcript of his will, dated August 3, 1557 at Sutton-cum-Lound, England, can be found on page 27-28 of Storrs, Charles THE STORRS FAMILY, (New York 1886). William STORRES married to Dorothy --?--. =====. BIOGRAPHY: Samuel Storrs was baptized 7 Dec 1640 at Sutton-cum-Lound, England. He came from England and lived in Barnstable, Massachusetts, from 1663 to about 1698, when he removed to Mansfield, Connecticut. --- Samuel STORRS (1640-1719) married first in Barnstable, 6 Dec. 1666, Mary HUCKINS, dau. of Thomas and Mary (WELLS) HUCKINS. They had children: Mary STORRS; Sarah STORRS, m. 1st Dr. Joseph JACOBS, m. 2nd Thomas BURGESS; Hannah STORRS (1672-1751) m. Prence SNOW; Elizabeth STORRS m. Nathaniel PORTER; Samuel STORRS (1677-1727) m. Martha BURGESS; Lydia STORRS; Mehitable STORRS. --- In the list of members of the Barnstable church at the accession of "Pastor RUSSEL," in 1683, the year of her death, Mary (HUCKINS) STORRS is thus named: "Mary ye wife of Sam'll STOORE". Samuel STORRS was admitted to the church of Barnstable on 8 March 1685. --- Samuel STORRS (1640-1719) married second, 14 Dec. 1685 at Barnstable to Esther, widow of John AGARD. She had a son, John AGARD, who came with her to Mansfield, Conn., and who married there on 8 June 1709 to Mehitable --?--. Samuel and Esther STORRS had children: Thomas; Esther; and Cordial STORRS. --- Samuel STORRS (1640-1719) left Barnstable, Mass. and removed to Mansfield, Conn. about 1698. Samuel STORRS and his son Samuel were Proprietors of the town of Windham (now Mansfield), and he was a large landholder there. He is said to have been a large, fine-looking man, and all allusions to him show him to have been prominent and influential in the religious and civil affairs of the town. He was "one of the original nine male members of the Mansfield church." --- Samuel STORRS deeded land to Mr. CRANE in 1709. On 14 Mar 1710, Samuel STORRS, Sr. was allotted land "lying at Chestnut Hill, the said 50 acres belonging to the 10th allotment south of John AGARD's farm Mansfield". That same year, Captain John MASON sold ten acres of land in the town of Windham, Conn. to Samuel STORRS, Sr. on 20 June 1710. --- The will of Samuel STORRS, Sen'r (1640-1719) was dated 22 May 1717, and recorded 7 July 1719, at Mansfield, Conn. In it he provides for his wife, Esther; bequeathed to sons Samuel, Thomas, and Cordial; and leaves "to my five daughters, Sarah, Hannah, Elizabeth, Lydia, Esther" 160 acres of land, "equally among them." His son Thomas was named executor, and witnesses were Eleazur WILLIAMS, Mary WILLIAMS, and Mehitabel GARY. --- Samuel STORRS (1640-1719) died 30 April 1719 at Mansfield, Tolland Co., Conn., "in the seventy-ninth year of his age," and was buried in the old burial-ground of the South Parish (located, just north of Samuel STORRS home on "Mansfield Street"). In 1879, Charles STORRS of New York, (son of Royal and Sarah (PIERCE) STORRS, and grandson of Joseph and Experience (GURLEY) STORRS), erected a monument on the grave of Samuel STORRS and placed new markers on the graves of his children.
