Description	:	Samuel Thomas Smith, only son of Thomas and Liddie Smith was born in Brooklyn, Iowa, March 9, 1879, and passed away at his home in Grinnell Thursday afternoon, Jan. 20, 1949, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 11 days. On May 7, 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Cora Kibbee. To this union five children were born. A daughter, Elida, preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1915. On May 7, 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Cora Kibbee. To this union five children were born. A daughter, Elida, preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1915. The other children are Floyd of Albia, Amos, Cleo and Mrs. Lewis Pimlott of Grinnell. He was employed with the Rock Island Railroad for 23 years. Except for the last six years his entire life was spent in Brooklyn, having moved to Grinnell. In his early life he attended the Baptist and Episcopal churches but after his marriage he attended the Presbyterian church with his wife. He has been in ill health the past two years. His family were always first in his thoughts and he took great pride in his home life. He is survived by his wife, four children, 8 grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Worrell of California, Mrs. Nancy Corbett of Vail, Iowa, Mrs. Matilda Keeler of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Mrs. Susan Hartgrove of Michigan and other relatives. Memorial services were held in Smith's funeral home in Grinnell, Saturday, Jan. 22, 1949, in charge of Rev. E.W. Holler, a former pastor of Brooklyn. Pallbearers were Beecher Graham, Arthur Risse, Carl Keeney, Ernest Grovenburg, Donald Sowerwine and Paul Weber. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Brooklyn. Those from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Kibbee, Mrs. Dan Coburn, and Mrs. Ed Carter of Brooklyn, Bill Smith of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Keeler of Estherville, Mrs. John Keeler, Mrs. Eva Duckett and Johnnie Keeler, all of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. W.J. Wittenburg of Parkersburg.
