Mr Thompson ws born in Vehango county, Pennsylvania, March 17, 1830, the son of Mr and Mrs Wm Thompson, who died several years ago. When ten years of age he moved with his parents to Wayne county, Ohio, remaining there until 1851, when he came to Iowa, where he has lived ever since. In 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Harriett Deeter, who bore him one daughter, Mrs Margaret Dodd of Jasper county, Iowa. Mrs Thompson died in 1853 and later Mr Thomspon married Miss Catherine H Deeter, a sister of his first wife. To this union eleven chidlren were born, of whom seven survive. Mrs M B Norris of Valley Junction, Iowa; Samuel Thompson of Haigsville, Nebraska; Mrs Chas C Signs of Mingo, Iowa; Mrs W B Hand of Colo, Iowa; Mrs L T Harmon of Newton, Iowa; Mrs G T Corbett of State Center and John Thompson of Collins. Mrs Thompson died on Nov. 18, 1903, and was buried at Rhodes. Since that ime Mr Thompson has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs G T Corbett of this city. Mr Thompson served during the civil war, in Comapny E, 40th Iowa Volunteers, in the Army of the Potomac, under CoL. A J Garrett of Newton. He participated in numverous engagements, amonth them the battle of Williams Creek. He was wounded at Brownsville, Tennessee. At the close of the war he received an honorable discharge. Mr Thompson was a member of the M E Church at Rhodes, was a member of Van Pelt Post, G.A.R. of this city and also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 366 at Rhodes. The funeral will be held at 2 pm tomorrow at the M E church at Rhodes, Rev W H Foster, of Mt Vernon, conducting the services. Burial will be made at Rhodes cemetery. Mr Thompson was for a long time active in the work of Marshall County and was at all times a good citizen, ready to lend his aid to any worthy enterprise and a host of friends in this part of the county regret his passing from us.
