My great grandfather Lowman was born and lived in Germany, I do not know his Christian name, moved to America. My grandfather was born in Virginia, I do not know his Christian name. A History of the Lowman Family I, Samuel Winfield Lowman the historian of this sketch make the following statement. My great grandfather Lowman was born and lived in Germany, I do not know his Christian name, moved to America. My grandfather was born in Virginia, I do not know his Christian name. My father, George Lowman was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, July the 24th 1765 and died August the 21th 1824. Susan his wife, my mother, was born July the 24th 1774. Samuel Lowman, the son of George and Susan Lowman, the eight child was born December the 22nd 1806 in the State of Virginia, Rockbridge County, from there he with his father’s family moved to Ohio, Clark County, October the 10th, was married to Elizabeth Williams, August the 31st 1826, moved to Indiana, Cass County, October 1831, there I remained until October 1854, where we come to this my present home State of Iowa, Polk County, Camp Township, Section 26, Township 78, Range 22. I have made arrangements to end my days here, and will here end the history of my family. Such of my family who have died and are buried in the Lowman graveyard, a part of what was my old homestead in Section 26, Township 78, Range 22, Iowa, are as follows: Nathaniel W. Lowman, our son, who died March the 23rd 1857. Aged 29 years, 1 month and 28 days. Our daughter, Sarah J. Kuns who died August the 14th 1871. Aged 38 years, 2 months and 4 days. Our daughter Elizabeth E. Brockett who died November the 24th 1878. Aged 32 years, 11 months and 11 days. In the above named graveyard is a monument, the following inscriptions. On the West or front is as follows, symbol–Bible—in said Bible is Holy Bible below is symbol—Clasped Hands—over verse, “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord for they have rest from their labor, and their works do follow them, by faith we shall reach the promise land to meet to part no more, while God through his Angels, and ministering Spirits rite the Universe through ages. Without faith it is impossible to please God, by faith and righteousness, in doing right, we shall reach the brightest courts of heaven allotted to man, woe to the infidel and ungodly, where shall they appear. May God almighty through his Angels judge the ungodly according to their deeds, Amen. On the Base in raised letters. South side of monument in a circle is the following name, “S. Lowman,” then as follows, “Born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, December the 22nd 1806, moved to Ohio, October the 10th, 1810, moved to Cass County, Indiana, October 1931, moved to Iowa, October 1854. Died (leaving a blank) Aged (leaving a blank.) Verse, I will that my profile be out on the monument that the future generations may see from whence they came. Children, honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long on the Earth and happy in Heaven with Gods ministering spirits on high in Heaven. North side of monument near which is a headstone, on which on top is cut in raised letter “MOTHER.” On the monument in a circle is ELIZABETH as follows, “Wife of Samuel Lowman, died December the 27th, 1878, aged 69 years, 6 months and 15 days.”
