Pitchford, 89, of Vienna died Feb. 19, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. Lowell was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Liberty, W.Va., a son of the late Devirgle L. and Clara E. Pitchford. Pitchford, 89, of Vienna died Feb. 19, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. Lowell was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Liberty, W.Va., a son of the late Devirgle L. and Clara E. Pitchford. Most of his working life was spent in the natural gas business, first with Columbia Carbon, then with Gas Transport, Inc., from which he retired as president in 1979. Lowell graduated from Ripley High School and attended the School of Mines at West Virginia University. As a young man Lowell played high school football and club-league baseball. Later in life Lowell enjoyed bowling and golfing, golf becoming his main avocation during his retirement years in Florida. Lowell was one of the original designers of the Par Mar Pines golf course, now Golf Club of WV, and once served as a marshal at the U.S. Open Golf Tournament. Survivors include his wife, Oreta Mae Pitchford, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1938; one son, Stephen L. Pitchford and his wife, Ann, of Vienna; one grandson, Darren L. Pitchford of Parkersburg; and two brothers, Cameron Pitchford of Las Cruces, N.M., and Rex Pitchford of Pittsburgh, Pa. He is also survived by his long-time companion and friend, Glenda Hendrickson of Vienna, who helped and cared for him for many years. In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two sisters; and five brothers. In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be neither visitation nor a funeral service. While Lowell enjoyed good health for most of his life, he did suffer vision problems from macular degeneration in his later years. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053. Arrangements are pending at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna. Oreta M. Pitchford Oreta Mae Pitchford, 87, of Vienna died May 29, 2006, at the Arbors in Marietta. Oreta was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Ripley, a daughter of the late Dr. Oshel C. and Ora C. Staats. Oreta graduated from Ripley High School and The Charleston School of Commerce. While she has not been active for many years, she was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church in Vienna and before that, the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley. Survivors include one son, Stephen L. Pitchford and his wife, Ann, of Vienna; one grandson, Darren L. Pitchford of Parkersburg; one sister, Eileen Vickers of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Oreta was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell D. Pitchford, whom she married on Oct. 20, 1938; an infant daughter; and two brothers. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fairplain Cemetery. Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, is in charge of arrangements. While Oreta enjoyed good health for most of her life, she did suffer from Alzheimer's in her latter years.
