Sam was the son of the late Thomas Washington Cable and Mabel Moore Cable, of Marion. Sam, a veteran of World War II, was in the 465th Combat Engineer Division, surviving five military battles, including the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
