Description	:	Sara Anne Gilstrap of Joplin Mo. passed away from this life into eternal rest on Christmas morning at age 77. Sara anne was known for her lfelong work in music education, serving her entire 42 year career with the Riverton School District. Sara was a recipient of numerous awards including Master Teacher of the Year in Kansas. Read More	Sara Anne Gilstrap of Joplin Mo. passed away from this life into eternal rest on Christmas morning at age 77. Sara anne was known for her lfelong work in music education, serving her entire 42 year career with the Riverton School District. Sara was a recipient of numerous awards including Master Teacher of the Year in Kansas. She was a graduate of the Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg (Pittsburg State University) and was gifted with the ability to play many musical instruments.She also served as director of the choir for her church, Blendville Christian Church where she was a lifelong member. Teaching was Sara Anne's life. It has often been quoted that "a teacher affects eternity' no one can tell where the influence stops" She enriched lives with the sounds of music. She also taught private lessons during her retirement and inspired several of her students to enter into the teaching profession. Sara Anne also enjoyed woodcarving and gardening which she learned from her father and mother. She also had a great friend in her pet dog Ginger. She is survived by one brother, COL Dean Gilstrap (Ret) of Tennessee and preceded in death by her father and mother, Alonzo and Cora Eva (Hawes) Gilstrap, and brothers, Wayne Albert, Harold, Claude, Marvin, Maurice and Robert. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday December 29, 2011 with visitation at 1;00 p.m. and services at 2;00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Virgil Edwards of Blendville Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Burkhart Cemetery in Racine. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to Blendville Christian Church 2201 South Picher, Joplin Mo. in care of the building fund, or in care of parker mortuary
